NYC - Winter Birding at Shirley Chisholm State Park

  • 1750 Granville Payne Avenue Brooklyn, NY, 11239 United States (map)

Join Jen Kepler and Martha Harbison for an exploration of Shirley Chisholm State Park, with our eyes to the sky for raptors and sifting through loads of ducks and geese on the waterways.

We will begin our outing from the East End of the Parking Lot and walk along Hendrix Creek to the fishing pier (likely the first hour, this area is paved and flat). After we hit the pier, we will walk up the Peninsula Blvd Mound to look for sparrows, harriers, and anything else we run into (this portion of the outing will take us onto gravel paths with slight to steep inclines and declines).

Accessibility notes: There are accessible parking spaces located in the Peninsula Blvd lot where we will be meeting. We will start our birding on paved, fairly flat paths for the first half, the second half will include hills and gravel paths. Port-a-potties are available in the parking lot at the meeting location.
