FBC NYC - Cutie Crawlies Bug Night in Prospect Park Session 3

  • Brooklyn, New York United States (map)

Join FBC NYC for an evening of insect surveying!

More info and RSVP here.

NYC is located in the middle of a huge ancient, avian migratory flyway!

Like birds, many bugs migrate, relying on winds and celestial objects/light for navigation.

We'll use UV light to attract night-flying insects, admire their diversity of shapes, colors, behaviors, discuss their importance, and record our observations with iNaturalist (optional).

We will be coming off of a new moon (low illumination), which can be interesting conditions for doing a bug light.

The last few weeks we've been observing many caddisflies, beetles, cicadas, lacewings, mating damselflies, moths (big and small), spiders, and more! Fireflies and bats have also been active in the area.
