Gullentine's Day in New York City

Come Mend Your Broken Hearts With Us!

Join Ryan and Martha of Feminist Bird Club NYC for GULLENTINE’S DAY

We’re headed to Sheepshead Bay to get better at gull ID and to offer our sincere appreciation to these most unappreciated of birds. We’ll cover the basics and learn how to distinguish between gull species no matter what age they are. Regular gull visitors to Sheepshead Bay include Great Black-backed Gull, Herring Gull, and Ring-billed Gull, plus Bufflehead, Common Loon, Red-breasted Merganser, Fish Crow, American Crow, Mallard, Lesser Scaup, and American Black Duck. Rarer offerings include Lesser Black-backed Gull, Iceland Gull, Common Goldeneye, Harlequin Duck, and Surf Scoter. A real rarity—a Glaucous Gull—has been hanging out for those Roll N Roaster corn fritters, but no guarantee that it will still be there by Gullentine’s Day.

When: Saturday, February 10

Time: 10am to noon

Where: Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn

Please register in advance on Eventbrite

Accessibility notes: We will be walking on paved sidewalks the whole time. There are a couple of benches scattered throughout the area, but folks who need frequent seated rests might want to bring a light folding stool. Bathrooms are very hard to come by.
