  • 1550 Anacostia Avenue Northeast Washington, DC, 20019 United States (map)

For more information and to RSVP, please visit the EventBrite.

Meeting Location:

We will be meeting where the main parking lot turns into a trail at the main entrance to Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens (photo below). The address is 1550 Anacostia Avenue NE, Washington, DC 20019. There are lots of parking spaces, including four van-accessible spaces. There are men and women bathrooms located inside the Visitor Center, which can be accessed via a ramp.

Getting there:

If you are taking the metro, the nearest metro stop is Deanwood Station on the Orange Line. From the station you go to the end of Polk Street and then take the pedestrian overpass over Kenilworth Avenue/295. Next, go left on Douglas Street and then a right on Anacostia Avenue. The park will be on the left.

If you are biking, there is an entrance to the park off of Anacostia River Trail. From the river trail, there is a 0.25 mile-long connecting trail to the park entrance. There are bike racks available to secure your bike while you walk the aquatic garden trails at the park.

If you are driving, the park’s website recommends using the provided address in the meeting location description to ensure arriving in the right area.

Carpooling:

Some leadership members are able to provide rides from the metro and back, but we may need more volunteers depending on the demand.

  • If you will need a ride, please let us know when you register.

  • If you can provide rides, please let us know when you register.

Trail Information:

We will be walking at a leisurely pace and taking breaks along a flat trail that is compact dirt and small pebbles/gravel that turns into a wooden boardwalk with a slight incline at its start. There are benches and tables along our path, about every 100-200 feet.

The total distance is 0.64 miles, and everyone is welcome to stay as long as they want and go as far as they would like.

Outing Leaders:

For this trip, Rachael Mady (pronouns: she/her) and Molly Cohn (pronouns: she/they) will serve as the outing leaders. They are both on the leadership team, love to be outside, and get excited by birds.

If you have any questions about the outing, have any accessibility needs, or have any other thoughts, please do not hesitate to reach out to us!
